Empowering Our Children

In The Wild is an alternative provision based on a working farm in Fillongley dedicated to empowering children and young people who struggle in mainstream school.

At In The Wild, we give children (and parents) a voice in their education by offering a calm, natural environment where their choices, interests and needs are respected. We aim to help them grow and take an active role in their learning. With compassion, proven strategies, personal experience and (most importantly) by respecting their autonomy our children are able to grow, learn and socialise.

About Us

In The Wild is founded on the belief that every child deserves a personalised educational journey. Our team, led by individuals with firsthand experience in neurodivergence, is dedicated to guiding students through their challenges, uncovering their strengths, and fostering positive transformations. Specialising in supporting neurodivergent learners, we provide a unique approach that emphasises autonomy and individualised support.

Children may come to us for a variety of reasons. Whether that's because they are home-educated, neurodivergent, have emotional-based school avoidance, trauma, anxiety, other learning needs or a combination: we do all we can to welcome and tailor our programmes to support them to thrive individually and as part of a team. Every single member of our team are either neurodivergent themselves or have both personal and professional experience.

What we offer:

Our main provision runs Monday to Friday, term-time only.

10am-2pm

Each session starts with Morning Meeting where we check-in with each other and review what the children wanted the focus to be for the day's session.

Children can then take part in their chosen project or choose to do something else dependent on the pace they need that day.

Sessions end with a briefing. We discuss how the day went and what the children would like to do next.
Who can attend:

In The Wild currently accepts children aged 6-16.

We accept referrals for:

- Private, self-funded, home-educated children who are not currently on roll at any school.

- Children who are not currently coping in mainstream education. Placements must come directly from their school or local authority but we are more than happy to meet with parents too.

Please Note: We do not currently accept referrals for children under the age of 6 but we are looking into a separate, shorter provision for this age group.

What you can expect:

- Child-choice at the forefront of everything we do.

- Hands-on, outdoor, nature-based projects and activities focussing on real-world skills   involving anything from growing food and cooking to woodwork and land care.

- Time in our beautiful natural surroundings to support emotional regulation and to ground our young people.

- A key worker assigned specifically to you and your child whilst building relationships across the team.

Our Approach

Initial Assessment

After receiving a referral, we begin by meeting with parent and child to establish whether we are the right provision for their needs. School staff or parent and child are shown around the provision.

We create a positive plan of support together and decide on how we are going to begin to integrate the child into the setting.

Individualized Support

Prior to starting, your child will be assigned a key worker who will work closely with them throughout their journey at In The Wild

However key-workers are flexible and will not always work directly with your child. This may change based on the needs of the group or particular activities planned.

Adaptations are made daily for those who need it.

Progress Monitoring

We use images and observations to record children's progress over time. These are sent to parents and schools regularly whilst updating them on their progress.

Regular updates/progress reports are created for parents and schools.
